MySpace, a Space for Advertising
Traditional advertising outlets are having less of an impact on consumers because of DVR’s and the reduction of time spent in front of the television. Advertisers are seeking new outlets. One outlet is MySpace. MySpace is an online directory of people who list there hobbies, interests and basic information about themselves. With over 68.9 million people logging on to MySpace, this is a great opportunity for advertisers to research profiles and cater ads to current users.
MySpace users register with an email account and personalize their page by adding video files, music files, as well as MP3 files. MySpace is a place intended for music, especially new artists and underground bands. The social network also allows you to select wallpapers and buddy icons. Record labels have found that establishing a MySpace account for their artists have had more success than the actual fan Web site. The media has caught wind of this networking machine, and they are seizing the opportunity just like Wendy’s, Best Buy, and Dell are doing.
